Dream come true!!! – I did it for myself – ORC Week 8
It was early in the morning for me on Jan 11th 2021!!! 8.00 am, I was in the kitchen making breakfast for my family and then feeding my 1 yr old. Raju walked in and told me, I think its time for us to buy a home. I was dumbstruck, I told him 3 years ago, we should buy a home as investment. He rejected me outright. So now you can understand my shock!!!
I said, let me see what I can do. Raju was clear, he wanted SFH with big backyard. Being stuck inside 2 bd apartment for 8 month during pandemic, its only fair he wanted a big backyard.
But the question came to, what do I need??? A BIG QUESTION???
I realized, I wanted a white house with blue door, with custom interiors and ton of accent lighting. Dark TV wall to give out theatre effect. A bench overlooking a window to read my book and drink a cup of Hot Chocolate on a rainy day. Finally a big kitchen with an huge Island.
Breaking news!!! being in San Diego, I cant in a million years get my dream home. The reality hit real quick. I settled for a 1970’s home that was never remodeled since first built but in an amazing neighborhood with everything starting from school, grocery, hospital, pharmacy and shopping all in walkable distance.
So once I moved in, I immediately started renovating my home. But now as part of this FALL ORC 22, I decided to bring the dream of having a TV wall accent light, window bench dream come true. So I started off with clean slate.
BEFORE
PLAN
Lets Check out the AFTER’S
SWING WALL
I started off with swing wall, this is my hubby childhood memory. I made it come true for him. He always told me the story of how he enjoyed the egg chair swing. So I thought its only fair to bring his dream come true too. So, I made this wall specifically for my husband with ton of space to accommodate plant. I am not much of a green thumb but now I try that’s because of my hubby. I try gardening soo hard its because of his dream. Let me know how you like this wall in comments.
BOARD & BATTEN WALL
Now moving on to the Board and Batten with picture ledge wall. This is another one of my hubby ask at least that’s what I thought when I designed for this room. When we moved in to the house, we were looking for soo many inspiration on Pinterest. He told me, he wants a picture ledge so that he can keep more plants, and all our keepsake without the reach of my kids and I assumed Board & Batten is also part of his ask. So I built it and then came to know he hates board & batten!!! Facepalm moment right. But he said he loves the picture ledge. At least that’s a win right? Let me know your thoughts on comments. Do you love it or love it?
WINDOW BENCH WALL
Moving on to the window bench wall. OMG!!! this is my dream wall. Ever since I was a child, I wanted this window seat and for what reason seem to have eluded my memory. But I never had it and now I have it. I made this dream come true for myself. and included a book shelf to display my plants, keepsakes. I love how it turned out with the accent lights. Would you believe I still have to install one more shelf and change the roman shade to blue color. Yes its not completely done but I love how its shaping up to. 90% project completion team but we jumped on to styling 😉 . Would you want to sit in this window bench? My kids are already fighting for this bench.
Also, blue door bonus with peephole frame from my fav sitcom “Friends”, I still have to give one more coat of paint and install gold Toe kick. But I am loving how its turning!!!
FLUTED TV WALL
Finally, I wanted this wall to be a showstopper with beautiful dark moody color, with accent light to bring in that moody theatre effect while at the same time not making my entire living room dark. Fluted wall is “my new dream I had since lunch and I am not giving up on it.” said by Michael from the Office sitcom. hahaha!!! Let me know your thoughts. Does it meet your showstopper expectations?
