I missed last week ORC post as I was sick. But this week I made soo much progress. I feel good but very nervous because I still have one more wall to go and ton of DIY to be done!!! But this post is all about my Board & Batten wall.

I thought my husband wanted a board & batten wall with picture ledge, so while planning for the challenge I included it as part of my design. But unfortunately he wanted a planter ledge to keep plants and “NO BOARD & BATTEN” and he told me this after I finished installing it. So now instead of a picture ledge its going to be planter ledge with Board & Batten. In this post Ill show you how I installed Board & Batten. Board & Batten.

How did I decide on the size and the distance. The only thing I decide is the size of the batten. I chose to go with 1×4 for the Top & Base of the Batten and 1×3 for the vertical batten and finally the height of the batten. I wanted 3/4 of the wall.

I then decided to go to the “inchcalculator” website to calculate the distance between each batten. This website made my job soo easy. I highly recommend it. Now for the material list.

Material need

• 1×4 – primed wood – 4
• 1×3- primed wood – 8
• Nail Gun
• Caulk
• Wood Filler
• Behr Paint
• Roller/Sprayer

Instructions:

I first installed all my baseboard and the top board. Because I guarantee you the wall is not going to be straight and the vertical batten height going to change for each batten.

Then, I cut the measurement board for the gap between the batten

I started from one end of the corner and measured the height between top & baseboard on exact spot. this helped me in having to avoid gaps between the batten.

I also did the dry fitting and then finally started fitting with nail gun. I haven’t used liquid nail as I know for sure ill be board of it soon and want to strip it off and I don’t want to damage my wall.

Once I install, I did caulk where the wood and wall meets and where wood & wood meets I used Wood filler.

That’s it then some magic of painting. Boom!!! we have a board & Batten Wall!!!
